Hastings Borough Council is working to make Hastings a better place to live
Published 24/06/2022

To learn more about the housing conditions of the area Hastings Borough Council has commissioned Opinion Research Services (ORS) to work with local residents.
ORS will be carrying out a series of surveys and visits asking residents about the conditions of their homes, to help us better understand the needs of our town. The results of their work will give the council with up-to-date information that will help to inform decisions about housing strategy in Hastings and St Leonards in the future.
The council has to periodically review the condition of housing within the borough. The review will help update policies to maximise what the council can do to improve housing.
Over the next few weeks properties across the borough will be selected at random to take part. If selected, residents will receive a letter providing information on the study before a surveyor from ORS with photo ID attends to ask some basic home related questions. Following this the surveyor will look in more detail at homes for any issues with living conditions, including identifying any hazards or accessibility issues.
Deputy Leader Cllr Maya Evans, lead councillor for Housing and Community Development, said: "If your property is selected, we would be extremely grateful if you could spare a little time to take part. This is really important as we will be able to look at the living conditions across the town of both rented and owned homes, and the changing needs for housing in the area. The results will make us more informed about the current housing situation, which is the first step to us being able to better help residents."
If you have any concerns about the survey, you can talk to the council by calling 01424 451066 or email housingadmin@hastings.gov.uk.
More information on the survey can be found on the council website.
Hastings Borough Council is run by Labour and Green councillors working together following a Cooperation Agreement.
