Since reopening in May this year Hastings Museum & Art Gallery has been delighting visitors.

Many visitors have been leaving positive reviews for the museum and its exhibitions across the museum's social media platforms, on Trip Advisor and on Google. One visitor referred to the museum as a "delightful experience…a hidden gem" and another, when referring to the summer exhibition Ingenious Contraptions, said that it was "exhilarating pre/post lockdown escapism. Such a fun exhibition."

Ingenious Contraptions is proving to be a family favourite. It brings the amazing Cabaret Mechanical Theatre's fun, creative automata alongside objects from the museum collection and includes programmable LEGO contraptions. Ingenious is an exhibition for families and art enthusiasts alike. The automata capture moments of humour and act as an intriguing exhibition for all ages.

Cllr Paul Barnett, lead for regeneration, said,

"We are absolutely thrilled that visitors are thoroughly enjoying their visits to our wonderful museum and art gallery. The museum team have worked very hard to make sure the museum is as accessible and engaging as possible, whilst still making sure people are safe and protected from COVID-19. After a difficult year, it really is great to see people discovering the beauty of the museum and providing us with this wonderful feedback.

"We would like to say a big thank you to in particular to Cabaret Mechanical Theatre, Falmouth Art Gallery and the support of Anthony Horowitz for helping make this exhibition possible."

The exhibition has been described by Anthony Horowitz OBE, Author of Foyle's War & automata collector, as "Quirky, imaginative and exhilarating…if you want to celebrate the end of lockdown, I can't imagine a more entertaining day out."

Ingenious Contraptions runs until 29 August 2021, open Thursdays - Sundays, and is free to visit. You can book tickets and find out more about the museum at www.hmag.org.uk.
