75th anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings

On 6 August 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later, on the 9 August, another nuclear bomb was released on the Japanese city of Nagasaki.
The overall death toll is estimated at 140,000 in Hiroshima and that at least 74,000 people in Nagasaki.
Survivors of the bombings are known as hibakusha. They faced a horrifying aftermath in the cities, including radiation poisoning and psychological trauma and people continued to be impacted in the months and years that followed.
Today on the 75-year anniversary we remember all the lives lost in Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.
