Explore Hastings’ history under your feet
Published 24/03/2026

Did you know that artist David Hockney has a link to Ore? Or that Exmouth Place was once home to Queen Mary Louise of Haiti?
A new history trail through Hastings has been put together by Hastings Museum & Art Gallery and community partners to uncover some of the hidden stories of our town and the people who made it what it is today.
A map with all the trail locations is available on the museum website, and you can find out more with graphics at the relevant location with QR codes taking you to more details online.
Cllr Julia Hilton, deputy leader of the council, and lead councillor for shaping place and local government reorganisation, said: “This is a fascinating trail, telling the story of some of Hastings’ Hidden history, I am really looking forward to tracking them all down, learning about some of the amazing people and objects that are part of our story as a town, I hope it will also encourage more people to also track down our fantastic museum and art gallery.”
The Hastings Stories Trail is a collaboration with our community partners: In-Sight, The World According to Ore project Trainees supported by Groundwork South, Hastings Queer History Collective supported by Home Live Art and the Flavours Without Borders Trainees supported by Refugee Buddy Project whose participation, inquisitiveness, research and dedication has activated these remarkable stories of the town and the people who make it what it is today. Thanks to funding from taxpayers, we’re an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation bringing creativity and culture to your doorstep.
