Fines for littering and fly-tipping
Published 12/02/2026

Littering and fly-tipping is illegal and can cost you up to £1,000 if prosecuted for littering and up to £50,000 for fly-tipping.
Hastings Borough Council’s Warden Team has recently issued four Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to residents and businesses for fly-tipping and littering offences.
We have issued the following FPNs:
- £200 FPN for fly-tipping of chairs in Old Church Road;
- £80 FPN for a waste related offence after street cleaning staff found rubbish left by a litter bin in Pevensey Road;
- £80 FPN for another waste related offence beside a litter bin after street cleaning staff found the evidence in White Rock;
- £80 FPN for a commercial litter bin offence in the town centre.
Cllr Jo Walker, lead councillor for environment and community wellbeing, said: “I am really pleased we have issued these fixed penalty notices. We know that littering is a big concern for residents and we are taking it seriously by taking action. Our corporate plan includes a priority on increasing pride in place and stopping littering and fly-tipping is part of this.
“Please keep reporting fly-tipping and littering through MyHastings, we can’t prosecute without evidence, and by sending your reports you are helping us build a picture of hotspot areas that we can follow up and target our response. Where we have sufficient and good quality evidence, we will take action to prosecute offenders of enviro-crimes.”
If you spot fly-tipping or littering, please take a photo of it, and leave any evidence of addresses or names on-site, and report it through my.hastings.gov.uk.
