Active Hastings join the Stronger for Life movement
Published 19/06/2024

Active Hastings are proud to announce they have joined the Active Sussex 'Stronger for life' campaign. The campaign aims to improve strength and balance of individuals throughout Sussex to help reduce the risk of falls in later life.
With thanks to funding from Active Sussex, the Active Hastings team are launching a variety of new physical activity classes throughout the town, including a seated strength exercise class, qigong, walking football, flexi-balance and aerobics.
The Active Hastings team have kick started the campaign by introducing a Seated Strength Exercise Class every Wednesday, 9.15am to 10am at Play Sport Fitness Hub on Elphinstone Road, Hastings (term time only). This is a strength-based workout for those who struggle to weight bear, stand for too long, or exercise whilst standing, but still want to build strength.
A weekly Qigong Movement Class will then make its way to Alexandra Park, Hastings, from Wednesday 3 July, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. The easy to follow and fun Qigong class will help ease the symptoms of pain, while enhancing sleep quality and reducing fatigue. Booking for the Qigong Movement class is essential.
To help keep all the 'stronger for life' classes going, the suggested ticket price for each session is £3, however, if the cost is a barrier, different ticket options are available.
Cath Donovan, Active Hastings Co-ordinator, said: "The Stronger for Life project aims to increase provision of community strength and balance sessions for people at risk of falling in later life.
"Our Friday Seated Strength Exercise Class has been so oversubscribed we are delighted we have received funding from Active Sussex to allow us to launch a second class on a Wednesday, this will ensure this popular class can benefit as many people as possible throughout the town. In September we're also looking forward to launching a flexi-balance class and an afternoon walking football session and aerobics class, watch this space!"
