Mould and Damp Complaints and Treatment Costs [CU:869bgxxjz]

Responded Fri 13 February 2026I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
The purpose of this request is to gather data on mould and damp in residential properties.
Required information
Specifically, I am seeking data on the following from January 2020 to December 2025 (or the most recent date for which data is held), broken down by month and year:
- Reports: The total number of complaints and/or reports received regarding mould and/or damp in residential properties, broken down by month and year
- Expenditure: The total cost incurred by the council in relation to works, treatment, remediation, inspection, or mitigation of mould and/or damp in residential properties, broken down by month and year, in GBP (£)
- Resolution Times: Where recorded in existing systems, the average number of calendar days between the date a mould and/or damp report was first logged and the date the case was closed or marked as resolved, broken down by month and year — or, if averages are not already held, the date each report or case was first logged and the date it was closed or marked as resolved, aggregated by month and year.
I confirm that I am not seeking any personal or identifying information.

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding.
The attached excel spreadsheet are complaints relating to Private Rented Sector Properties (PRS).
Hastings Borough Council did a large scale voluntary transfer of its housing stock in 1996 and subsequently only has a relatively small housing portfolio.
We did not collate reports of damp and mould prior to the introduction of Awaab's Law on 27 October 2025. We had one report of Damp between that time and the end of December 2025. This matter is ongoing and we do not have a total cost incurred.
