FOI request (FOIR-734676503)
Council Tax Allocation to Migrant Hotels in Hastings
Requested Mon 28 July 2025
Responded Wed 06 August 2025I am writing to formally request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 concerning the housing of migrants in hotels within the jurisdiction of Hastings Borough Council.
Specifically, I would like to know:
1. The amount or proportion of local council tax revenue that is allocated to the accommodation of migrants in hotels.
If no council tax funds are used directly, please confirm whether any indirect costs (such as support services, environmental health, community safety, or waste collection at such hotels) are met by the council using council tax revenue.
2. A list of all hotels or other forms of temporary accommodation currently used to house migrants within the Hastings Borough Council area.
Please include the name and location of each establishment and, if possible, the number of occupants housed at each.
This information is being requested in the public interest, in the context of ongoing discussions and concerns within the local community regarding transparency, public resource allocation, and community impact.
Response
Hastings Borough Council does not use hotels to provide accommodation for asylum seekers.
