      Penalty charge notices

      1. How many penalty charge notices have been issued in your region for breaches of parking rules in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025?

      2. The total amount collected in fines (in £) of penalty charge notices issued in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025?

      3. How many appeals have been lodged against the penalty charge notices in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025?

      4. How many appeals saw a successful outcome for the claimant in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025?

      5. Please can you share what the money from penalty charge notices was used for in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025?

      6. Do you use a private parking company to issue penalty charge notices? If yes, which company do you use?

      Please can you share this information clearly showing which years the information is related to for each question?

      The following is for PCNs (Penalty Charge Notices) issued for off-street parking (car parks) only.

      East Sussex County Council enforces on-street parking, please visit their website for further information:

      The figures provided are minus spoils, voids, test tickets, and warning notices.

      1.

      April 2022 to March 2023: PCNs issued 4492

      April 2023 to March 2024: PCNs issued 4911

      April 2024 to March 2025: PCNs issued 5632

      2.

      2022 - £106,882

      2023 - £168,602

      2024 - £141,770

      2025 - £73,311 (up to June 2025)

      3 and 4.

      NOTICE OF REFUSAL

      The information requested in respect of 3 and 4 would require us to manually check each customer record. This would far exceed the time limit set out by the Information Commissioner. S12 of the Freedom of information Act 2000 provides an exemption from the obligation to comply with a request for information if the estimated costs of complying with that request would exceed the prescribed appropriate limit.

      We estimate that the costs of complying with your request would exceed the appropriate limit by a significant amount.
