Pest control in Hastings' parks

Responded Thu 16 October 2025I am submitting this Freedom of Information request regarding rodent control practices in the parks and green spaces managed by Hastings Borough Council, with particular emphasis on Alexandra Park.
I would be grateful if you could provide the following information:
1. What types or brands of rodenticides are currently used in Hastings parks and green areas?
2. Where are bait boxes typically located within these areas, especially in Alexandra Park?
3. How frequently is bait laid and how often are bait boxes refilled?
4. What methods are used to monitor rat populations? Please include any available data on population numbers and trends.
5. What evidence or data is available to demonstrate the effectiveness of the current baiting strategy?
6. Please provide any historical records or data that support or inform the current rodent control approach.
7. Is there any data or assessment regarding the impact of rodenticide use on non-target wildlife, including mammals, birds, and domestic pets?
Response
1. Rodenticide, Deadline rat blocks (Difenacom).
2. Bait boxes, purpose built subterranean metal bait boxes that are locked at all times.
3. Baiting schedule, Hastings Borough Council use a rolling schedule for checking the bait boxes on a fortnightly basis but they are only baited when we have had sightings or evidence suggests treatment is required.
