Beach Hut Development

Responded Fri 19 September 2025I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Please provide me with the following information:
1. Do you currently have beach huts?
2. If you do, how many?
3. How many are leased huts, casual/annual hire, or privately owned?
4. What is the annual charge for your leased huts?
5. What is the annual charge for your licensed huts per hut?
6. If you do not, do you have land that could be used for beach huts and vacant?
7. Why is this land not being used for beach hut development?
8. Is it in the councils future strategy to develop new beach huts in the district?
9. Do you have any council owned land that could potentially be developed for leisure caravan sites?
10. Who in the local authority is responsible for making strategic beach hut decisions?

The Freedom of Information Act is based on recorded information held by a local authority, it is not a tool to ask questions.

Hastings Borough Council has 380 licensed sites. Currently, 216 huts are privately owned, 154 are council owned, and 10 are short term seasonal hire.
