FOI request (FOIR-714099564)
Homeless - mortgage repossession
Requested Tue 13 May 2025
Responded Wed 28 May 2025Please could you tell me how many people have presented themselves to the council as homeless as a result of losing their home as a result of mortgage repossession in each of the past three financial years (2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25) and how many, in each of those years, how many of those who presented as homeless because of mortgage repossessions have since been homes?
Please could this information be provided broken down on a year-by-year basis?
Response
Mortgage repossession (owner/occupier):
2022-23 = 2 (of which 1x secured existing accommodation, 1x secured alternative accommodation)
2023-24 = 3 (of which 0x secured accommodation)
2024-25 = 11 (of which 3x secured alternative accommodation)
We are unable to report on mortgage repossession where property is occupied by a tenant and the property is being mortgage repossessed via the landlord/owner, as these will be reported under a different reason for homelessness.
For example, the landlord may have served a notice of eviction on the tenant, so therefore the reason for homelessness will be recorded as 'End of private rented tenancy assured shorthold tenancy'.
