Homeless Deaths 2023

Please can I request information about the number of homeless deaths in your local authority area, from 1st January 2023 to 31st December 2023 (inclusive), in each of the following housing situations:

1. Accommodation for homeless people commissioned by your council, including hostels and supported accommodation for people identified as rough sleeping or with a history of rough sleeping.

2. Exempt accommodation.

3. Temporary accommodation commissioned by your local authority, including Bed and Breakfast.

4. Rough sleeping or with no fixed abode.

Where you have access to any of the following information, please include the cause of death or suspected cause of death, date of death, the person's gender, the person's age when they died, their ethnicity, and their immigration status. If you cannot provide any of this additional information, then please just provide the number of deaths. An information sheet is attached that provides answers to common questions we receive.

Response

Hastings Borough Council holds no information in relation to Supported Accommodation and Exempt Accommodation. This is dealt with by East Sussex County Council:

This information is held - number of homeless deaths the council 'placed' in temporary accommodation:

3x male (age when died 59, 61, 69),

1x female (age when died 41).

Cause of death and date of death not known.

Ethnicity 4x White. Information is not held as to English/Welsh/Scottish/Northern Irish/British.

Immigration status 4. Information is not held as to British or Irish citizen, habitually resident in UK, Ireland, or Isle of Man, or deported from another country.
