I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information.

1. In the following dates, how many bags of litter, refuse and detritus was removed from the areas for which you are responsible:

a. 2021

b. 2022

c. 01/01/2023 to 09/07/2023

d. 10/07/2023 to 31/12/2023

2. In the following dates, how much money (or other resources) has been spent/used on litter picking in the area for which you are responsible:

a. 2021

b. 2022

c. 01/01/2023 to 09/07/2023

d. 10/07/2023 to 31/12/2023

3. In the following dates, how many FPNs have been issued by your authority for littering in the areas for which you are responsible and how much money have they generated:

a. 2021

b. 2022

c. 01/01/2023 to 09/07/2023

d. 10/07/2023 to 31/12/2023

4. If the local authority that I am writing to uses litter cameras or similar to catch motorists throwing litter from their cars, how many fines have been issued as a result of this and how much money has it generated (please break down by the following dates):

a. 2021

b. 2022

c. 01/01/2023 to 09/07/2023

d. 10/07/2023 to 31/12/2023

Response

1. Hastings Borough Council does not record the number of bags of litter collected. Waste is weighed when its tipped.

2. The cost of the service is fully incorporated, and so one part cannot be split out from another.

3a. 2021 - 22 FPNs - £1,440

3b. 2022 - 17 FPNs - £1,120

3c. 01/01/2023 to 09/07/2023 - 2 FPNs - £160

3d. 10/07/2023 to 31/12/2023 - 2 FPNs - £160

4. Hastings Borough Council does not use litter cameras.
