Enclosed below is a new FOI request for business rates data for all commercial properties in your council.

I request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 about all Business Rates Accounts held by your Council:

1. Account Name.

2. Account Start Date.

3. Billing Authority Reference.

4. Current 2023 List Rateable Value.

5. Details of any reliefs where applied, including a further breakdown if possible of:

a. Type of relief applied.

b. Date the relief was applied.

c. Value of the relief.

6. Full Address of the rated assessment.

7. Billing Address.

8. Occupied/Empty Status.

9. Description.

I am aware that the Account Name may be considered personal in some instances so I ask that in these cases you supply the rest of the information provided with the Account name redacted. Also, if there are any aspects of our request you cannot disclose information for, could you please identify them with a reason?

NOTICE OF REFUSAL

The information requested in respect of the amount (£) of relief granted would require us to manually check 2666 customer records. This would far exceed the time limit set out by the Information Commissioner. S12 of the Freedom of information Act 2000 provides an exemption from the obligation to comply with a request for information if the estimated costs of complying with that request would exceed the prescribed appropriate limit.

We estimate that the costs of complying with your request would exceed the appropriate limit by a significant amount.

For this reason we feel unable to comply with this part of your request.

Please note that names/addresses/telephone numbers and email addresses have been redacted as these fall under Section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act: Personal data. This is an absolute exemption and the requested information will not be provided.
