      Barbecuing in public parks

      1. Does your authority have responsibility for setting the local regulations regarding whether people can BBQ in a public space?

      2. Is BBQ cooking permitted in ALL local authority public spaces WITHOUT a permit or prior authorisation?

      3. If not, is BBQ cooking permitted in ANY local authority public spaces WITHOUT a permit or prior authorisation?

      4. Is BBQ cooking permitted in ANY local authority public places WITH a permit or authorisation?

      5. How many local authority places exist in your geography where people can BBQ?

      6. If the answer to Q5 is less than 6 in number, please name the places.

      7. Is there a charge for a permit/permission? If so, how much is it?

      Parks and open spaces

      3. Barbecues are not permitted within our parks and gardens except in the designated area at Fairlight Road Picnic Area in Hastings Country Park. There are 4 BBQ stations and are designed for the use of disposable and portable BBQ appliances.

      Beaches

      1. Yes

      3. Barbecues are allowed at any time but open fires or bonfire type barbecues are only permitted after 8pm, or dusk if earlier. We encourage people to use the beach between groynes 47 and 51a at Sea Road in St Leonards (adjacent to West Marina Gardens), as this is the most suitable site.*

      4. We do not operate a permit system, however large gatherings may be considered as events and subject to our event application process.
