Homelessness outcomes

Responded Wed 26 October 2022Please provide the number of households, initially assessed by your local authority as being owed a homelessness duty, between April 2021 and March 2022 where cases were recorded as being homeless on departure from an institution (including 'Custody', 'general hospital', and 'psychiatric hospital'). Please disaggregate data by:
• Month of assessment
• Departure institution 'type' (for example, 'Custody', 'general hospital', and so on)
• Duty decision (for example, 'living with friends', 'supported housing/hostel', 'private rented sector')
Please exclude any cases which had not received a main duty decision as of 31 March 2022.
Response
Of the 28x 'departure from institution' cases initially assessed between April 2021 and March 2022 as being owed a Prevention Duty or Relief Duty, only 8x cases went on to a Main Duty decision stage.
Of the 8x Main Duty cases:
5x had a Main Duty Decision
1x application withdrawn
2x lost contact prior to assessment
Of the 5x cases that had a 'Main Duty Decision' only 4x were issued decisions by 31 March 2022:
3x Homeless + priority need + unintentional - s193(2) duty
1x Not in priority need
Of the 3x Homeless + priority need + unintentional - s193(2) duty decisions:
1x Accepted a Housing Act 1996 Pt6 social housing offer in May 2022
2x cases are still open
The 1x 'Not in Priority need decision': the 'accommodation outcome' is 'Not known'.
Of the 4 cases issued Main Duty decisions by end of March 2022, please see below for their month of assessment and departure institution type.
