FOI request (FOIR-405934292)
Domestic Abuse/Pest Control
Requested Sat 05 March 2022
Responded Wed 16 March 2022I am writing to make a Freedom of Information request to your council.
I would like to receive information on the following for research purposes:
Domestic Abuse
1. From March 23rd 2020 to July 15th 2020, how many extra accommodation beds (we define each safe space of accommodation as a 'bed') were made available to victims of domestic abuse specifically (not homeless people or any other groups needing accommodation)?
Within this data on beds for domestic abuse survivors I would like the following break down:
a. What is the gender breakdown of the beds provided? That is, how many were made available for women, men, and so on?
b. How many of these beds were refuge beds?
c. How many dependents also found refuge with the escaping parent?
Please let us know if you do not track this information but it is tracked on your behalf by a third party. Please give details of the third party.
For all beds (extra and not) we would like to know of the same period (March 23rd 2020 to July 15th 2020):
d. Did you record diversity and inclusion data on the race/ethnicity, religion, disability status of the survivors using the beds?
e. What kinds of accommodation (bed and breakfasts, private rented accommodations, hotels, council housing, storage containers, and any other housing) did you provide or commission? How many of each were available during the periods above?
Please let us know if you do not hold this information. If the data is held by a third party on your behalf, please let us know the name of the third party.
Pest Control
2. From the 23rd March 2020 to 15th July 2020, how many times did you respond to a pest control problem?
Of those incidents, how many call-outs were in response to the following pests:
a. Rats
b. Mice
c. Bedbugs
Response
Domestic Abuse
Information not held.
Hastings Borough Council only deals with domestic abuse victims when they are fleeing domestic violence and present to Hastings Borough Council as homeless or will be homeless in the next 56 days.
Refuges for domestic abuse are commissioned by East Sussex County Council, please visit their website for further information:

Pest Control
Hastings Borough Council Pest Control services were suspended from 24 March 2020 as per Government guidelines of the national lockdown. Only emergency visits were permitted during this time. These were resumed at the end of July 2020 in line with guidance available at the time. On the 23 March there were 3 visits made in response to new complaints of Rats and during the suspension of service there were 2 emergency call outs attended to by our pest control officer.
