Accommodation Deaths

I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information from your Housing Department.

Please can I request the number of deaths from 21st November 2020 - 31st December 2020 (inclusive) in each of the following accommodation types commissioned by your council:

a. accommodation for homeless people, including hostels and supported accommodation for people identified as rough sleeping or with a history of rough sleeping

b. temporary accommodation commissioned by the local authority

c. supported accommodation for homeless young people

Please can this include the cause of death or suspected cause of death, date of death, and the person's age when they died?

Please provide the information in the Excel document attached.

Response

Our response below also covers your request for the number of deaths of rough sleepers or no fixed abode following your email dated 5 January 2022.

Temporary accommodation: From 21st November 2020 - 31st December 2020 (inclusive), of those households we 'placed' in temporary accommodation, there was 1 death on 19 December 2020, aged 58 and had a history of rough sleeping. Cause of death not known.

Supported accommodation: This is commissioned by East Sussex County Council, please contact them direct for information on deaths in supported accommodation (https://www.eastsussex.gov.uk). We only make referrals to supported accommodation.

There were no other deaths reported.
