I am writing from CPRE, the countryside charity, where we are currently conducting a piece of work looking into the pressure that short-term lets are placing on the housing market.

Part of this research requires us to understand the current state of the private rented sector. Do you have any information on the number of privately rented properties there are in your district and whether you also have this information over a number of years?

Response

2001 - 5,754 units of private rented accommodation.

2011 - 9,125 units of private rented accommodation.

2019 - 13,342 units of private rented accommodation.

2021 - 14,500 (estimated) units of private rented accommodation.
