Claim by Hastings politician regarding property licensing
Requested Tue 13 July 2021
Responded Wed 21 July 2021
Following the Government's refusal to renew the Selective Licensing Scheme in Hastings (possibly the Additional scheme too I'm not sure. I saw this in a report in the press.
The Labour authority leader, Kim Forward, is quoted in the local media as saying: "We are bitterly disappointed...[The scheme] has brought about an improvement in the conditions to rented properties and the fact that this additional protection is no longer available means it is the tenants that will suffer as a result."
Please particularise what evidence, research or statistics are behind claims that the schemes (both selective and additional licensing) have improved rented properties and provide either copies of the same or weblink to where it has been published in full.
The requested information can be found following a Special Meeting of the Cabinet dated 23 March 2020 - Agenda item 5 pp 31-252
