Hot Food Takeaway Plans
Requested Wed 05 May 2021
Responded Wed 19 May 2021I am a researcher at the University of Cambridge, working on a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded project investigating the retail impacts of local authority Hot Food Takeaway outlet (until recently Use Class A5) 'exclusion zones' around schools. An exclusion zone is an area within which new takeaway food outlets will not be allowed to open. We are planning to evaluate their subsequent impacts on health and the local economy.
To assist us with this major national evaluation, please can you reply to this request with the following information:
1. If your local authority has a planning criterion designed to create a hot food takeaway 'exclusion zone' around schools, contained in an adopted or interim policy or guidance document (such as a Local Plan, Supplementary Planning Document, or Development Management Plan), please can you send us a copy of this document. For example, you might have an adopted supplementary planning document that contains a criterion describing how 'proposals for new hot food takeaways located within 400 metres of schools will not be accepted'.
2. If your adopted policy or guidance document superseded a previous version that also contained an exclusion zone planning criteria, please also send us the first edition of this document.
3. If you no longer have an adopted policy or guidance document that contains an exclusion zone planning criteria, but these criteria were contained in a superseded document that is now out-of-date, please send us a copy of this out-of-date document.>/p>
4. If you have never had an adopted policy or guidance document that contained an exclusion zone planning criteria, please also let us know.
Response
Hastings Borough Council has never had an exclusion zone.
