Selective Licensing Scheme

Responded Wed 07 April 2021We are currently conducting some research for benchmarking purposes and request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act, from the Housing department, that deals with the functions conferred by the Housing Act 2004. Please could you provide information on the following: Do you have, or have you ever had, a Selective Licensing Scheme in place? How many private rented properties fall (or fell) within each Selective Licensing area? Do (or did) you offer a reduced fee for applications received in the last 6 to 12 months of the scheme? If so, what is (or was) the reduction? How many FTE staff do (or did) you have to run each Selective Licensing Scheme, and what role do (or did) they perform? (that is, quantity of Housing Enforcement Officers, Business Support and so on)

Question: Do you have, or have you ever had, a Selective Licensing Scheme in place?
Answer: Hastings Borough Council ran a Selective Licensing Scheme from October 2015 to October 2020.
Question: How many private rented properties fall (or fell) within each Selective Licensing area?
Answer: Information not held. We issued 8133 licences.
Question: Do (or did) you offer a reduced fee for applications received in the last 6 to 12 months of the scheme? If so, what is (or was) the reduction?
Answer: No
Question: How many FTE staff do (or did) you have to run each Selective Licensing Scheme, and what role do (or did) they perform? (that is, quantity of Housing Enforcement Officers, Business Support and so on)
Answer: At the end of the scheme there was one team leader, 4 enforcement officers, one Admin Team Leader and 3 Admin staff, one apprentice
