FOI request (FOIR-220770766)
Increase in the number of Domestic Abuse Victims
Requested Wed 24 June 2020
Responded Fri 03 July 2020Can you confirm the percentage increase in Victims of Domestic Abuse in Maidstone as a result of the Coronavirus Lockdown?
What arrangements has the Council made to house these victims?
Response
Hastings Borough Council holds no information in respect of this request.
Anyone fleeing domestic abuse can approach any council, so we would only have information on those households who have presented to us. None have presented to us from Maidstone. Households do not have to inform their own council that they are fleeing domestic abuse. At the same time if anyone that lives in Hastings and presents to us fleeing domestic abuse, for their own safety we may place them outside of the borough in emergency temporary accommodation or refer them to Refuge. We have checked our records and we have not placed any of these households in emergency temporary accommodation in Maidstone during this period. We don't hold information on where Refuge place people.
Households can make their own referral direct to Refuge, and can bypass councils completely.
Our website https://www.hastings.gov.uk/housing/vulnerable/domesticviolence/ has a lot of information for anyone that needs help on domestic abuse.
