FOI request (FOI210571)
Brownfield Sites
Requested Wed 05 April 2017
Responded Wed 05 April 2017Local Councils and Borough Councils representing local government in the UK have to keep a register of 'brownfield sites'. This legislation was brought forward by planning legislation in April 2016.
We would therefore be grateful for this register and a register of ALL local government held assets to date.
Response
Hastings Borough Council do not currently have a brownfield register. The secondary legislation (the regulations) requiring local authorities to prepare and publish a brownfield register was laid before Parliament on 23/03/17 and comes into force on 16th April 2017. Local planning authorities must publish their register by 31st December 2017. This Council will shortly begin preparing a brownfield register. In addition we have been informed that the Department for Communities & Local Government (DCLG) will be publishing guidance to explain Government policy for brownfield registers in more detail and that this guidance will be published as soon as possible after the secondary legislation comes into force.
