FOI request (FOI-76160783)
Water supply and sewerage services
Requested Mon 21 May 2018
Responded Fri 25 May 2018Please advise the method by which Hastings social tenants (occupants of Council owned or managed property) pay for water supply and sewerage services. Specifically, would this be by direct payment to water companies or via indirect payment through the Council as agent of same.
Response
Hastings Borough Council has 2 such properties, the charge for water supply is included in the rent and their waste water goes to cess pools which they are responsible for emptying.
All social housing was transferred in 1996 as part of a Large Scale Voluntary Transfer (LSVT) to 1066 Housing Association, now Optivo. No information is held on how these tenants paid their water bills. The Social Lettings Agency 'manages' some properties. Most of these tenants make direct payments to the water companies, apart from a few who occupy HMOs where these tenants make a payment to the Social Lettings Agency who then pays the water company.
