Public space protection
Requested Wed 28 March 2018
Responded Mon 09 April 2018I would like to enquire under the Freedom of Information Act as to whether this authority has a public space protection in order affecting any of the following types of behaviour in any public space within the local authority?
(please indicate any that apply and how many orders enforce against each behaviour)
- Loitering
- Begging
- Aggressive begging
- Sleeping
- Carrying specified amounts of property
I would also like to enquire as to whether, and how many, fines or prosecutions have occurred as a result of such a public space protection order if one is in place?
Response
Hastings Borough Council has a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) covering aggressive begging from the list above.
There have been 4 fixed penalty notices issues however each has been waived due to on-going police investigations.
Full details of the PSPO can be found at https://www.hastings.gov.uk/my_community/community_safety/pspo/
