FOI request (FOIR-675743165)
Fly Tipping incidents recorded in 2024
Requested Sun 05 January 2025
Responded Fri 17 January 20251. I would like to request the number of fly-tipping incidents reported last year (defined as 1st January 2024 - 31st December 2024) and the percentage of these cases that were cleared within the council's target time. Would you also be able to tell me what the council's target time is? Is it the same as previous years?
2. Would you also be able to tell me the number of fines handed out for fly tipping by year for the years 2018 to 2024 and the total amount these fines came to?
Response
1. 2024 - 16 fines were given out from fly tipping incidents.
Reports received will not all be actual fly tips, such as community litter pick volunteers leaving bags, it is a collection day, or items left out generally for private collection. The information collated is that which has been passed to the fly capture data. 2024 - reports received 2404.
All were removed within the agreed local timescales. The times scales are the same as previous years and within the national code of practice, being the maximum time of 14 days, whereas we remove items within 48hours. Whilst all reports are investigated, any enforcement is based on evidence, witness details and resources. Then based on legalities and solid evidence, fines or further court action can be taken.
2. The below is purely FPNs classed as fly tipping offence (so not for littering which is a separate offence).
2024 - 7 issued which came to £2,000
2023 - Nil
2022 - 1 which came to £400
2021 - 1 which came to £200
2020 - 2 which came to £800
2019 - Nil
2018 - Nil
