      Requested Mon 28 October 2024
      Responded Mon 11 November 2024

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 I write to request:

      1. Where possible, the amount of miles of dedicated cycle routes in existence in your local authority area on 28/10/2024.

      2. Where possible, the amount of miles of cycle routes established in the past 6 years in your local authority area with a breakdown for each calendar year. This time period should include (01/01/2018-01/01/2023) and where possible (01/01/2024-28/10/2024).

      3. Where possible, the amount of money spent on cycling infrastructure in the past 6 years in your local authority area with a breakdown for each calendar year. This time period should include (01/01/2018-01/01/2023) and where possible (01/01/2024-28/10/2024).

      4. Where possible, the amount of money spent on cycle and scooter share schemes in the past 6 years in your local authority area with a breakdown for each calendar year. This time period should include (01/01/2018-01/01/2023) and where possible (01/01/2024-28/10/2024).

The definition of cycle route is taken here to be “A route that cyclists are advised to use to reach certain destinations. The term covers on-carriageway cycle lanes, off carriageway cycle tracks, and any other place where cyclists have the legal right to ride.”

According to the Department of Transport definition “Shared Use Routes" are designed to accommodate the movement of pedestrians and cyclists. They can be created from new, or by converting existing footways or footpaths. Shared Use Routes may be segregated or unsegregated." These will include footways, footpaths, towpaths or any other public right of way in the area. Please include all of the above when counting.
