Car parking bay sizes

Responded Fri 05 April 2024I am emailing you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I am seeking information relating to car park parking bay sizes.
If the request proves too broad, or exceeds the allocated time allowance for an FOI request, could you please focus on questions 2, 2a, 2b, 3, 3a, and 3b as priority and inform me? In particular, I am after the following information:
1. Do you have a standard parking bay size which is in place across your car parks?
a. Are there plans to enlarge the standard parking bay size in car parks?
2. Since 23rd January 2014, how many PCNs have been issued for parking outside of the lines in car parks?
a. Please provide a year-by-year breakdown of the figures.
b. Please provide the value in £ of the PCNs paid, also providing a year-by-year breakdown.
3. Are cars exceeding a certain length banned from any of your car parks?
a. If size rules are enforced, from what date did the council start doing so?
b. If size rules are not enforced, are there plans to do so?
4. How many PCNs have been issued to people for parking these banned cars in car parks since 23rd January 2014?
a. Please provide a year-by-year breakdown of the figures.
b. Please provide the value in £ of the PCNs paid, also providing a year-by-year breakdown.
5. What is the total number of PCNs issued in car parks from 23rd January 2014?

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding.
1. There are no actual legal minimum sizes for parking bays but there are design standards which are 4.8m x 2.4m. These are the measurements we use for out standard parking bay although we do have some labelled as short bays in a couple of car parks.
1a. Not at this time.
2. The system archives closed cases older than 3 years.
Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued for off street (car parks) only. On-street parking is dealt with by East Sussex County Council, please visit their website for further information: https://www.eastsussex.gov.uk.
The following are minus spoils, voids, test tickets and warning notices.
The information below is current as at 14/03/24.
2a. PCNs issued for contravention 86 parking beyond bay markings:
PCNs issued 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021: 81
PCNs issued 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2022: 92
PCNs issued 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023: 103
2b. Total value of PCNs paid:
1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021: £1,775
1 January 2022 to 31 December 2022: £2,436
1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023: £2,259
3. No, but cars are required to fit within the bay markings.
3a. Not applicable.
3b. Not at this time.
