Zoo Licensing Act

We are currently in the process of contacting all relevant Local Authorities in the UK, requesting details of all premises with Zoo Licences (under the Zoo Licensing Act 1981 (as amended)), in order to update our records and track changes nationwide.

If your records have not changed since our last request, we would still be grateful if you could send the requested information to enable us to maintain accurate records and mark the council as providing a complete return.

If your Local Authority has formed a partnership with another authority, please include information for all relevant constituencies.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, please:

1. Download the information table here:

2. For each premises with a Zoo Licence, return a copy of the most recent annual zoo stocklist outlining births, arrivals, deaths, and so on in accordance with Section 9.5 of the Secretary of State's Standards of Modern Zoo Practice.

3. For each premises with a Zoo Licence, return a copy of the most recent Zoo Inspection Report for 'formal' periodical or renewal inspections carried out under S.10 or S.14.2 by Government-appointed Zoo Inspectors. Please ensure all pages (1-10) plus any pages with additional conditions are included.

Please Note: The Zoo Licensing Act and associated standards require that a copy of the annual stocklist and inspection report is sent to the Local Authority. As our request is made for information that should be within the council's records, there should be no need to contact the zoo in relation to this matter.
