FOI request (FOIR-528193128)
Ponds on land at Hare Way and Harvest Way
Requested Fri 30 June 2023
Responded Fri 07 July 2023Under the Freedom of Information Act I would like to request the following information:
1. Why were the 2 (levelling) ponds on the land at Hare Way and Harvest Way (land owned by HBC) drained?
2. Who was responsible for draining the above 2 ponds?
3. The exact date the drainage took place (between 21/06/2023 and 25/06/2023)?
Response
The Pond referred to between Martingale Close south of Hare Way, is in fact a balance pond. A balance pond is a bowl area that acts as a collection point in wet or severe weather for water, the purpose is to avoid flooding and channelisation of water to lower land points. It is therefore important that the bowl area does not remain full of water.
At this particular site there is a dry weather channel that acts as a conduit for water to flow to a culvert. This culvert is cleared periodically (in contract) to allow the water to flow.
This water collection point regularly and annually drains and refills as per the water table and as severe weather provides.
