Equality Act 2010 – Public sector equality duty – guidance on the selection of suitable premises for public meetings
Requested Wed 15 February 2023
Responded Wed 15 March 2023Could you please consider the following question under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act:
Equality Act 2010 – Public sector equality duty – guidance on the selection of suitable premises for public meetings
Could you please provide any document which provides guidance to officers on how the public sector equality duty is to be reflected when selecting venues for holding public meetings (be they discussions, inquiries or consultations or similar).
Response
The majority of council meetings are held in our Council Chamber and are assessed by officers in line with equalities and accessibility. This will be done through our Business Support Team and our Corporate Health and Safety Advisor. Democratic services provide guidance for officers to ensure a good readability score and the report has been assessed for equalities impact only. We currently are not assessing physical spaces. As stated above this is done through officers in our organisation.
Please find attached our Emergency Evacuation Procedure under Corporate Health and Safety.
There are a few small meetings held outside of council offices which the organiser will assess each time.
