Council Tax - 2nd Homes

Responded Tue 15 September 2020We are undertaking research into the use or otherwise of the legislation that allows Councils to vary Council Tax on Second Homes.
The legislation permits up to a 50% reduction, and also an increase at Council discretion.
Can you please answer the following questions?
1. Does your Council vary the rate of Council Tax levied on Second Homes?
2. If the answer to Q1 is "yes"
a. what is the new rate of council tax charged on second homes?
b. when was the rate last reviewed?
c. How many homes are you rating as "Second Homes" and therefore expect to pay the varied rate of council tax?
3. What is the Political Party leading your Council?

1. Yes
2.
a) Normal Second Homes - No discount - 100% charge, and Job Related Second Homes - 50% discount
b) Normal second homes have been since 1st April 2013 and Job Related second homes since 1st April 1993
c) 743 (Full charge) and 7 (50% charge)
