FOI request (FOI225278)
Alexandra Park
Requested Wed 04 October 2017
Responded Wed 04 October 2017Dear HBC: in today's Obscurer it is stated that trees in Alexandra Park are being removed unnecessarily.
The willow by the Billie-Jo Jenkins Memorial in the Lower Park is under threat, but this is protected by TPO 068.
Under FOI or otherwise, please send me the arboricultural assessment relating to this proposed felling.
Response
The subject tree has been identified as a Weeping Beech. This tree is not subject to an existing tree preservation order.
Please view attached photo of Meripilus giganteus found growing on roots of subject tree. This type of fungus affects the roots of host tree, predisposing host to uprooting. The tree is being removed because it poses an unacceptable risk to users of the park.
