I understand that there was need for a recount as a result of the General Election yesterday for the Hastings and Rye Constituency.

I wish to make an FOI request as follows:

1. How many counts were undertaken including recounts?

2. What where the number of votes cast  for each candidate at each recount?

3. What is the threshold for voting numbers below which a recount is allowed.

4. How many recounts are allowed?

Response

Q1 - We conducted one initial count and one recount.

Q2 - Peter Chowney - 25,330/25,322, Nick Perry - 1,887/1,885, Michael Phillips - 1,472/1,479, Amber Rudd - 25,664/25,668, Nicholas Wilson - 411/412

Q3/4 - There is no statutory threshold below which a recount is required or allowed, neither is there a set number of recounts allowed. Recounts are held at the discretion of the Returning Officer and are normally discussed in conjunction with election agents at the count.
