Garden Waste

Responded Wed 02 May 2018I am sending this request under the Freedom of Information Act to ask for the following information: Do you charge residents to dispose of garden waste as part of the regular (weekly/fortnightly/monthly) doorstep collection of household waste and recyclables? If you do currently have a charge: 1) How many households subscribe to this service, and what proportion of all households does this represent? 2) How much revenue did the charge generate in financial years: a. 2014/5 b. 2015/6 c. 2016/7 3) Is there currently a plan to increase or decrease the charge over the next three years (for example, in line with inflation, or if the introduction of a charge has been staggered)? If you do not currently have a charge: 4) Is the council implementing such a charge in the next 24 months? 5) Please release any plans, proposals, impact assessments or other documents detailing the discussion of options relating to the imposition of a charge on the collection of garden waste.
Response
Hastings Borough Council has run a Garden Waste scheme since 2009, our bins are 240 litre brown bins and are collected fortnightly.
Q1 - 6000, there are roughly 44,000 properties in borough
Q2 - The Scheme started in 2009 at a cost of £35
a. 2014/5 5040 customers at £40
b. 2015/6 5600 customers at £45
c. 2016/7 6000 customers at £50
Q3 - Currently no increase has been discussed for 2019.
As of 1st April 2018 increased to £60
As of 1st April 2017 increased to £55
As of 1st April 2016 increased to £50
