Burial and cremation FAQs

The main differences are the types of memorial permitted and the way the sections are maintained.

In the Traditional Cemetery sections you can erect larger memorials and you can enclose the grave space with a stone kerb. Grave spaces may also be gardened.

In the Lawned Cemetery sections there is a headstone border in which a stone memorial (maximum height 3 feet) can be erected leaving a small area of approximately 1 foot for planting. The rest of the grave area is turfed and mown.

The Natural Burial area is a resting place for those who wish to be buried among native trees, shrubs, birds and wild flowers.

A Purchased grave is when the Exclusive Right of Burial is purchased for a set number of years (currently 50) and a Deed of Grant is issued. This entitles you to erect a stone memorial and arrange future interments in the grave, subject to the terms of the Deed.
Ordinary (or Common) graves are available in the Traditional and Lawned sections of the Cemetery. If the Exclusive Right of Burial is not purchased, you may not erect a memorial or authorise other burials there.

Natural burial area graves can be either ordinary or purchased. The Exclusive Right in this instance would be for burial only.

A memorial stone or similar can only be fixed on a grave with the permission of the current grave owner, we are not able to authorise memorials to be fixed on ordinary graves

You funeral director will give you a copy of the rules and answer any questions you may have. The rules are also included on the application form.

We have allocated parking bays, wheelchair access to the waiting room, Book or Remembrance, Garden of Remembrance, office and toilets. We also have braille service books available on request and a hearing loop.

The Chapel comfortably seats about 80 people. We have an overflow chapel for services with a larger attendance, the service can be viewed via a live link on the TV screen.

The cremation will normally take place immediately after the service or ceremony. The Code of Cremation Practice requires cremations to take place on the same day as the service or ceremony unless the applicants prior permission has be given.

Each coffin is identified on arrival and a corresponding identity card is placed on the outside of the cremator as soon as the coffin is placed inside. Each cremator can only accommodate one coffin at a time and the cremated remains must be cleared out before the cremator can be used again. The identity card follows each stage until the cremated remains are placed in a storage container.

Within our grounds, there are five different options for cremated remains:

• They can be communally strewn (overground) in the Garden of Remembrance or strewn in a designated place
• They can be placed underground in the Garden of Rest where a memorial vase can be leased for a renewable period of 15 years
• They can be placed underground in our Woodland Walk where the natural environment becomes the memorial
• They can be placed underground in an urn or casket in a Cremated Remains Plot for up to four placements at which a stone memorial can be raised where the Exclusive Right of Burial has been purchased
• They can be placed underground in an urn or casket in an existing grave to which the Exclusive Right of Burial has been purchased

No. To give you time to make the right decision, we can keep the cremated remains at the crematorium for one month, or you can take them with you and decide what you'd like to do at a later date.

Yes, this should be organised with your funeral director when you choose the music for the service. The visual tribute will be shown on a TV screen at the front of the chapel and will be created by our music supplier Wesley Media.

Additional charges will apply for a visual tribute.

We have a music system supplied by Wesley Media, their library can be found at www.wesleymedia.co.uk. If you have a track you would like to play and you cannot find it on the library you can upload it to Wesley and they will send the track to our system. You can arrange this with your funeral director when you discuss music with them. The funeral director will then inform the crematorium of your choices and it will be ready for the service.

Do you live stream or record the services?

Yes. Through Wesley Media, we offer a Webcast or Recording of your service. These need to be requested through your funeral director before the service and there is an additional charge.
The recordings can be either a downloadable link, USB or DVD.

We have a waiting area with seating and a water dispenser. There are a few pubs and cafes in the area to pick up food and hot drinks if you arrive early.
