I want to volunteer in Play
Play Hastings Summer Young Volunteers project
The Young volunteer's project has been now running for over 16 years and our partners include The Youth Council, In2play, Street Games, Orbit South and Amicus. Young people age between 13 and 17 years are offered a play training session and then volunteer opportunities at our Play day Events.
To register please you will need to book on to our young volunteers training day and have consent forms sent to you for your parents to fill out (if you are aged under 16 ). Once the consent forms are returned you will be able to attend the training day. All volunteers must be able to attend the training day to be part of the program. This takes place in the last week of the Summer term during after school hours. The venue will be the Hastings Adventure Playground.
Our two large play events are held by the Bandstand in Alexandra Park in August. At the Playday events you will be expected to volunteer from 10.00am until 3:30pm. During this time you will be scheduled an hour's lunch break.
At Play Days we expect the young people that volunteer to be responsible for themselves at the event. You will have a mentor but are expected to be able to run activities unsupervised with play staff supporting you. The types of activities you will be expected to help run are children's sports and crafts activities. You need to keep safe by staying with in the event arena and following all of the play days rules that you will have learnt at the July training session .You are expected to bring your own lunch and be responsible for travelling to and from the event. Some funding is available to help with travel if you are a Orbit or Amicus tenant.
In October you will be invited to a Hastings based, awards ceremony where young people are recognised for the good work they do in Hastings and St Leonards. You and the other volunteers from Play days will be asked to collect your own certificate and joint award on stage and then watch other youth projects collect their awards too.
If you would to be part of our Summer Play Days Young volunteers program or If you or your parents/carers have any questions, please contact us.
