I want to volunteer in Play
Play Hastings Summer Young Volunteers project
The Young volunteer's project has been now running for over 16 years and our partners include The Youth Council, In2play, Street Games, Orbit South and Amicus. Young people age between 13 and 17 years are offered a play training session and then volunteer opportunities at our Play day Events.
To register please you will need to book on to our young volunteers training day and have consent forms sent to you for your parents to fill out (if you are aged under 16 ). Once the consent forms are returned you will be able to attend the training day. All volunteers must be able to attend the training day to be part of the program. This takes place in the last week of the Summer term during after school hours. The venue will be the Hastings Adventure Playground.
Our two large play events are held by the Bandstand in Alexandra Park in August. At the Playday events you will be expected to volunteer from 10.00am until 3:30pm. During this time you will be scheduled an hour's lunch break.
At Play Days we expect the young people that volunteer to be responsible for themselves at the event. You will have a mentor but are expected to be able to run activities unsupervised with play staff supporting you. The types of activities you will be expected to help run are children's sports and crafts activities. You need to keep safe by staying with in the event arena and following all of the play days rules that you will have learnt at the July training session .You are expected to bring your own lunch and be responsible for travelling to and from the event. Some funding is available to help with travel if you are a Orbit or Amicus tenant.
In October you will be invited to a Hastings based, awards ceremony where young people are recognised for the good work they do in Hastings and St Leonards. You and the other volunteers from Play days will be asked to collect your own certificate and joint award on stage and then watch other youth projects collect their awards too.
If you would to be part of our Summer Play Days Young volunteers program or If you or your parents/carers have any questions, please contact us.
Volunteer opportunities in Play work for Adults
Community Play events in Hastings can only take place because of the time and commitment given by local organisations, individuals and volunteers. All of the families that attend these events really value the provision and are very grateful for all of the hard work it takes to make them happen. Play Days are two large play events that are held by the Bandstand in Alexandra Park in August each year, where volunteers are welcomed. You may also be asked to attend a Summer planning Play Forum and Youth network meeting prior to the events.
Organisations or groups that would like to support play days will need to obtain a stall holders form from Laura Beerling in the Play Hastings team. Request a form.
Individual volunteers are always welcome to support our If you would like to volunteer at these events you will need to have contacted us by the beginning of June, so that we are able to support you with applying for a DBS check. If you already have a DBS and the number is transferrable then registering to volunteer can take place up to mid-July. We will request a character reference and if this is your first time working with children and families we will provide you with some basic training before you attend our Play Days events.
If you are interested in volunteering but cannot make our Summer events then you may like to Support our Adventure playground. In2play who manage this site for us welcome volunteers to support their after school play sessions and Saturday morning family sessions.
