Priory Street Car Park FAQs
We are working on development options for the Priory Street multi-storey car park and adjacent areas. The council will be reviewing a range of mixed-uses including the possibility of a commercial leisure offer, wet leisure centre, cultural hub and residential units. We are in the early stages of the project and any decision regarding the site's development will need to take into consideration the scheme's financial viability and public and stakeholder engagement.
The concept development proposal is being funded through the Town Deal programme. Additional funding from Town Deal has also been set aside for the full development should a viable scheme come forward. Further public and private investment would also need to be secured when a proposal is finalised.
Hastings Town Deal is a £24.4 million grant from the UK Government to support regeneration in Hastings. Hastings is one of 101 towns to receive this funding. The programme consists of several projects across the town, from developing new business space to regenerating Hastings Castle, all of which aim to rejuvenate the town. The opportunity for the development of the site is not new and has been identified in the Council’s Development Management Plan: Hastings Borough Council: Development Management Plan - Section Three - Site Allocations (Cont'd) (planvu.co.uk) (Site reference: HT6 – Priory Quarter), the Draft Local Plan: Hastings Borough Council - Hastings Local Plan Consultation Draft (Regulation 18) (oc2.uk) (Site TC1 – Priory Street car park and ESK) and the Town Investment Plan as approved by the Government.
This is an exciting opportunity for Hastings and has the potential to deliver significant benefits for our town.

We will be carrying out a wide range of consultation with key stakeholders and the community to help inform the proposals for the site. We are at an early stage and further consultation will follow.
We are currently reviewing the demand and use of parking in the town centre as part of the new Draft Local Plan. The requirements for parking will be considered as we develop options for this site.
The development start date is not confirmed at this stage. If there is a successful proposal for the site, we would hope to start further feasibility and design work from early next year.
