House in Multiple Occupation (HMO)
The Council has decided to confirm an Article 4 Direction that will mean that planning permission will be required to change the use of a single family house into a shared house occupied by between three and six unrelated individuals occupying a property as their only or main residence and who share basic amenities (for cooking and/or personal hygiene). These properties are known as Houses in Multiple Occupation or HMOs.
The Direction comes into effect on 02 July 2012
As a result of the Article 4 direction planning permission is required for changes of use from dwelling houses to smaller Houses in Multiple Occupation.
