Leader's weekly update transcript - 17/09/21
Hi, it's Kim here with this week's update from the council.
Thanks to Welcome Back Funding our free Wi-Fi network which can be accessed along the seafront and in parts of the town has had an upgrade this week. It is better and faster than before and will continue for another three years. For information about where you can access the Wi-Fi and how to get online please visit our website.
You may have seen that this week is Great Big Green Week which celebrates the actions on climate change being taken by communities. Hastings Borough Council was one of the first councils to declare a climate emergency and we are committed to tackling climate change and lobbying the government for funding and changes to legislation. You can find more about climate change and our actions and how to make positive changes to make a difference on our website.
Last weekend was the Seafood and Wine Festival and we're glad that it was so successful. Thanks to everyone who came and supported the event and to everyone involved in the beforehand and who contributed on the day. It was lovely to see people enjoying themselves.
Let's keep helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and remember 2+2+1: two jabs, two lateral flow tests a week, and wear a mask when in busy and enclosed spaces. We must continue to work to stop the spread of the virus. We are talking to partners in the NHS about how the booster vaccine programme happen in our town and as soon as we have more information, we will pass it on.
It was with great sadness that we heard of the murders of Sabina Nessa and Terri Harris and the children with her and our thoughts are with their friends and families. Women should always feel safe on our streets and in their homes and we need to work together as a society to ensure this becomes a reality. Violence against women must stop.
Thank you for listening and please stay safe.
