Leader's weekly update transcript - 16/07/21
Hi, it's Kim here with this week's update from the council.
Once again, we are still seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases in our town and people are worried about the easing of restrictions on Monday. We are clear that the risk is very real, and many people are still vulnerable including those who have serious health conditions and those who have not been fully vaccinated.
We should continue to be considerate towards each other and respect social distancing and for the safety and protection of others including our key workers let's keep wearing our masks when we are in public places indoors. This virus has not disappeared so please show you care and wear a mask.
We have arranged for extra vaccine pop-up clinics in our town to increase the number of people getting their jabs. So, you can get your vaccination at the clinic outside Debenhams from 11:30 to 3:30pm every day except Sundays until July 31. Just turn up and get your jab. In the early evening the clinic will move to different places across Hastings and on Monday evening July 19th , it will be outside the YMCA in St Paul's Road in Bohemia. Please look at our website for the full details of where you can go to get your jab.
The school holidays are coming up soon and children on free school meals should receive food vouchers through their schools to cover the holiday period. You can find more information about free school meals on the East Sussex County Council website. There are still many children growing up in poverty in our town and we need to work together to eradicate this.
The new visitor centre at Hastings Country Park, The Bale House, is opening just in time for the summer. Groundwork South, who are running the centre, have some exciting plans for fun activities over the summer and the new information boards and lovely café will help everyone enjoy their visit to our beautiful country park.
After the final of the European Championships we received a stark reminder that racism is a feature of everyday life for some people in our country. We must continue to do all we can to stand up to racism and prejudice and support each other in this fight.
Say safe and well, thank you for watching.
