Leader's weekly update transcript - 18/06/21
Hi, I hope your week has gone well and that you enjoyed the good weather while it lasted. Our lifeguards have been working hard on our beaches and have already helped some people to safety. We are so grateful to them for their vigilance.
We now know that the Stage 3 restrictions will continue for another four weeks until the 21 July. There's still a limit of two households or six people meeting indoors, and the Government's website has all the information about what's allowed at the moment.
The number of cases of the virus is rising in our town and the Delta variant is a real threat. We need to keep thinking about social distancing and minimising close contact with others. It's also important for us to test ourselves regularly using the free lateral flow kit. It's easy to do the test and you get the results within half an hour.
Remember we can have the virus without having any symptoms and can pass the virus on even after we have been vaccinated. If as many of us as possible test regularly we can stop the spread of the virus. Our website shows you how to get the free test kits.
More and more of us have been vaccinated and now younger people are being invited to book their jab. There is free transport available if you can't get to one of the centres, and we have more pop-up clinics coming. Check our website for details. Please protect yourself and others and have your jab. Let's all encourage everyone we know to get vaccinated so that we see the restrictions lifted next month.
This week is Refugee Week and as a City of Sanctuary, we are committed to being a safe place for refugees and asylum seekers. We recognise and value the positive contribution that refugees make to our community with their wealth of knowledge, experience and understanding.
Hastings has a long standing and well-respected reputation for welcoming people seeking refuge and I would like to thank all those groups and their volunteers such as The Refugee Buddy Project and Hastings Community of Sanctuary for all they do to support and help people. We continue to be proud to be One Hastings, Many Voices.
Let's keep being kind and considerate. Have a good week. Thanks for being here.
