Leader's weekly update -26/03/21
Hi, it's Kim here, with my last update until after the local elections on May 6th as the law does not permit me to continue when we are in the statutory pre-election period which starts on Monday. The regular newsletter from the council will continue and I will be back after the election. Please remember that it is easy to apply for a postal vote so that you don't need to go to a polling station, and you can find details on our website.
The vaccine programme continues but take up is currently lower in Hastings than in other local areas and this issue is being taken seriously and ways are being explored of ensuring everyone who is eligible is helped to get their jab. Free transport is now available to take you to and from your vaccination if you are having difficulty arranging this. Please look at our COVID vaccine page on the website for more details or call the East Sussex travel coordinator on 07871603235.
It is really important to have your jab to protect yourself and if you are over 50, a health or social care worker or in the at-risk group with other health conditions you don't need to wait for an invitation you can either book online on the national booking service or call freephone 119 for an appointment at one of the vaccination centres or pharmacies. You can use the GP vaccination service at the Hastings Centre by booking through the link on the text message you receive or if you can't manage that by contacting your GP surgery to book an appointment. Let's work together to ensure we are all vaccinated to help to end this pandemic.
A lot of our business grant schemes have an end date of next Wednesday 31 March and this includes our additional restrictions grant scheme. Please check our website to see if you're eligible for any of these schemes, and pass the message on to any business owners you may know about these schemes too.
We have also received further detail about the new Restart business Grants coming in early April.
You can find all grant information on www.hastings.gov.uk/covid19-funding
Our draft new local plan consultation closed this week, thank you to everyone who took the time to respond, it is much appreciated.
On Monday, the booking form to request a seasonal beach hut for the 2021 summer season will be available on our website from 9am. The season will run from 14 May until 17 September. Bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis, so make sure to visit the site early if you're interested.
This week marked a year since we went into the first lockdown and it has been a very difficult year, with many sad times. My thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones. I would like to thank everyone, whether as part of an organisation or not, who has helped and supported others at their time of greatest need. Thank you to everyone who has followed the guidelines and let's all continue to do so as we enter this next stage. All the kindness, co-operation and compassion shown by us towards each other is really helping us through.
Thanks for being here, don't forget to vote and stay safe until I see you again in May.
