Hastings Museum & Art Gallery is inviting visual artists and makers to enter the second open call exhibition Hastings Open 2022.
Hastings Open 2022 is for UK-based visual artists working in painting, sculpture, drawing, print, photography, digital, and mixed media. The museum is keen to recognise the richness of the local arts scene and Hastings Open is a key part of this programme, helping to illuminate and celebrate the diversity of local artistic talent. The open also aims to support the careers of contemporary artists and provide a source of inspiration to those viewing the exhibition.
A panel of expert judges including Laetitia Yhap, acclaimed artist and painter, Angela Childs, curator, chair and trustee of Hastings Arts Forum, Ellen Prebble, artist, and Patricia Finnegan, Artist Development Lead with Project Art Works, Euan Roberts, artist, co-founder, and director of Big Yin Gallery, Fiona Denning, artist and chair of SoCo Artists and Kenton Lowe, arts practitioner and curator of blackShed Gallery will assess the pieces. Those selected will be on display at Hastings Museum & Art Gallery from 1 October 2022 to 29 January 2023.
Entry fees are £5 for one piece of artwork, £10 for two to three pieces, and £20 for four to five. The deadline to submit these is 11pm on Friday 24 June 2022. More information including how to submit entries can be found on the museum website www.hmag.org.uk.
Kevin Boorman, Hastings Borough Council's Marketing Manager, said:
"Hastings Open 2022 offers an excellent opportunity for our town's creative artists to showcase their talents. We hope lots of them will be inspired to submit their entries so we can see an array of engaging pieces in the museum later this year.
"An award will be given to the piece voted for by the expert judges, this includes a research residency at Hastings Museum & Art Gallery, a solo exhibition at blackShed Gallery in Robertsbridge and a cash prize."
