Hastings' Levelling Up Partnerships funding agreed
Published 25/03/2024
Hastings Borough Council is pleased to receive almost £15m through Levelling Up Partnerships with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).
Most of the funding, £10.11m, will be set aside to help scale up our accommodation programme; create a short-term assessment centre for emergency accommodation and to develop existing private stock or houses in multiple occupation (HMOs). There will also be £3.7m to progress the Bexhill Road affordable housing development which was granted planning approval in November 2023. That development will provide 16 energy efficient affordable homes.
The rest of the funding will be used to support other projects in the town, including money for Love Hastings; a health centre in Ore in partnership with the NHS; a project with Hastings Contemporary and other local art groups for a mobile studio space to deliver outreach activities in deprived areas and with Project Art Works to give more arts programmes opportunities to disabled adults and their carers.
Cllr Julia Hilton, leader of Hastings Borough Council, said: "We are really pleased that Hastings has been given this funding to help us address the housing crisis we have in our town. The funding means we are able to expand our housing acquisition programme and also make sure that a site earmarked for affordable housing can be built to our very high energy efficient specification and under our control. Funding for other partner projects across the town including skills, health, culture and better youth provision is also very welcome."
There is also additional funding (£5.181m) which has been awarded to East Sussex County Council for Hastings-based projects.
