FILLAGE by SUR MESURE
Stade Saturdays Saturday 12 August 4.30 and 7.30pm
Come to the Stade for the first Coasters touring network circus inspired event as part of Hastings Borough Council “Stade Saturdays”.
Performed by Sur Mesure, a Belgian collective of acrobats and musicians, Fillage is a thrilling but gently surreal mix of southern swing and trampoline, the Andrews Sisters and acrobatics, with more than a nod to sixties Californian swim wear styles. Unmissable, cool fun for all the family, this event is supported by Arts Council England.

Hastings Museum & Art Gallery - 125th Anniversary Party
Wednesday 16 August, 10am - 4pm
Hastings Museum and Art gallery will be celebrating their 125th birthday on Wednesday 16 August 2017 from 10 am to 4pm. The formal opening ceremony will be recreated at 3.30pm. There will be activities for all the family to enjoy, including crafts, printing, Punch and Judy, Victorian games, tombola and miniature railway rides. There will also be a chance to see the Classic Cycle Group and Happy Harold the trolleybus. Victorian dress encouraged!
The Victorians thought that museums were essential for both education and society. The 19th century saw museums set up in major towns across the country.
In October 1889, a meeting was held to discuss the possibility of founding a public museum for Hastings. As a result, the Hastings & St Leonards Museum Association was formed in August of the following year.
The public museum opened on 16th August 1892 in rooms provided by the Hastings Corporation in the Brassey Institute, and then it moved to its present location in 1928, where it is still managed by Hastings Borough Council. Entrance to the event is free, bring a packed lunch and stay all day, or enjoy tea and cake (for which there will be a charge) in our specially decorated tent.
Councillor Kim Forward, Hastings Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Culture said “We are always delighted to have people to the Hastings Museum and Art Gallery, and hope to see many visitors on this very special day. I am really pleased that we are celebrating the 125th anniversary with a free event for all which will be especially fun for families”.
Please note that parking will not be available in the Museum grounds.
There will also be a special trail available for children throughout the summer holidays. Children can follow the trail and answer the questions to receive a small birthday gift from the museum.
Blue Green algae alert in Alexandra Park
Hastings Borough Council (‘HBC’) is issuing a warning on behalf of the Environment Agency, as blue green algae has been confirmed present in some waters in Alexandra Park.
The Environment Agency has confirmed that the water at Shornden reservoir and the stream below it that runs to Harmers Reservoir have high levels of the algae.
These algae can produce a scum that is toxic to animals and can harm people. Hastings Borough Council is warning people and their pets to stay out of the water and is putting up signage around the affected areas to warn members of public.
HBC has also warned the fishing club and they are closing off access to Harmers reservoir. Access to Harmers wildlife pond and Shornden reservoir is already restricted.
Fortunately this natural phenomenon will go away in time when temperatures drop significantly but this is likely to be later in the year.
Please forward any other reports of suspected blue green algae to the Environment Agency on their incident hotline (24hrs service) 0800 80 70 60.
