I want to apply for a dog breeding licence
A licence is needed if you breed dogs as a business or if you produce five or more litters of puppies a year.
To apply for an dog breeding licence you will need to complete the form below:
Once you have completed the form you will need to send it to us. You can do this by scanning it and emailing it to us. Or you can post it to us at:
Hastings Borough Council
Muriel Matters House
Before your licence can be granted, we will need to inspect your premises to ensure it is suitable. This inspection will be carried out by council officers and a vet. The purpose of the inspection is to outline welfare and accommodation conditions for the licence. These conditions are for the protection of the animals. You will also need to keep a record of all breeding activity.
The inspection conditions will be detailed on the form below.
Once approved your licence will run for up to one year. All licences will expire on the 31st December and need to be renewed.
We will normally complete the application process within 20 working days. This may take longer if the vet inspection is delayed or raises other matters to be completed.
The charge for this service can be found on our licensing fees page.
We will send you out a renewal form in early December prior to the expiry of your licence on the 31st.
You will need to complete the form and send it back to us. Once we receive it we will check it and then approve it if there are no issues.
Your premises will not be inspected at the time of renewal but an inspection will be conducted at some point over the course of the year. This inspection will be conducted by one of our officers and a vet.
