Proposed New Scheme for 2020
Update on new scheme
Hastings Borough Council's application for a new selective licensing scheme has been refused by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government. The new scheme would have followed on from the old selective licensing scheme that ran from October 2015 to October 2020 and aimed to improve conditions, management standards, and tenancy practices in the private rented sector.
Current licences will remain in place until they expire and you should ensure you comply with your licence conditions.
What we consulted on
The current Housing Selective Licensing Scheme was introduced on 15 October 2015. Under the Housing Act 2004 a scheme is only allowed to run for five years. Therefore it finished on 15 October 2020. The consultation was looking for your views on a on a new scheme.

Why we consulted
Before we can introduce a new scheme, we need to consult with everyone who is interested to see what they think. We must run a formal consultation for 10 weeks to meet our legal duties.
